  • * Q: Why do I need a professional portfolio to start a modelling career?
  • * A: A professional portfolio is your most important tool. It’s a visual resume that showcases your versatility, expressions, and poses to casting agents and clients. High-quality images from a professional photographer are essential to stand out from the crowd and show that you are serious about your career.
  • * Q: What types of photos should a good portfolio include??
  • * A: A strong portfolio should include a variety of shots that highlight your range. We will work together to capture: Natural Headshots: Clear shots of your face with minimal makeup. * Full-Body Shots: To show your physique and proportions. * Editorial Shots: Creative, high-fashion photos that show a more artistic side. * Commercial Shots: Clean, commercial-style photos that show your ability to sell a product or lifestyle.
  • * Q: How many photos should I have in my portfolio?
  • * A: Quality over quantity is key. A portfolio should be a concise collection of your best work. Aim for around 10 to 20 strong, diverse, and high-quality images that showcase your best angles and versatility without overwhelming the viewer.
  • Embracing Professionalism for Modelling Success

  • A professional portfolio is your gateway to the world of modelling and showbiz, and there are no shortcuts to it. When someone sees potential in you, they'll often arrange for a professional photoshoot to build your portfolio. Models are chosen not just for their beauty but for how well they fit the project's storyline.

  • In a portfolio, photographers aim to showcase a model's visual strengths, which include hands, feet, neckline, and more—because it's not just about the face. Tall models often find their place on the runway, while shorter models typically shine in commercial advertisements, where mid-shots are common

  • Composite Card / Polaroid / ZED Card

    Portfolio

Essentials of a Modelling Portfolio - A modelling portfolio typically comprises the following elements:

  • 1. Print Portfolio: Maintain a folder with A4-sized prints, showcasing 15 to 20 images that highlight various aspects of your features and looks. Continuously update it with printed advertisements to demonstrate your modelling experience.
  • 2. Composite Card / Polaroid / ZED Card: Sized around 6x8 inches or roughly half of an A4, these cards are printed on both sides. One side features a single image, while the other side showcases a collage of different looks. Includes your name, measurements (Bust-Waist-Hips), height, modeling preferences, and contact information (email, mobile number/s, WhatsApp). Leave these cards with clients for reference in future assignments.
  • 3. Business Card: Utilise standard business card sizes for models, which are practical and easy to carry. On the front, includes two images along with all the information found on the Composite Card. The backside can feature a full image. Business cards are convenient for networking and can be easily updated with new images as needed. Consider printing multiple designs to cater to different client segments. Having several sets can be beneficial during meetings, as it allows you to break the ice and leave a lasting impression. Incorporating these elements into your modelling toolkit not only conveys professionalism but also adds weight to your profile when seeking assignments.
  • 4.Digital printing has revolutionised the process of updating business cards, offering an efficient solution for refreshing your professional image once your current supply of cards is depleted. Reprinting with new images not only imparts a fresh and modern appearance but also effectively communicates your professional versatility. Customization is key, as you can choose to print multiple designs tailored to specific client segments. Typically, I opt for printing ten to eleven sets of business cards to ensure I have an adequate supply.
  • 5. In a group setting or during meetings with multiple individuals, distributing cards with distinct designs can break the ice and create a memorable impression. Some recipients may even request additional cards as keepsakes, which can be a valuable branding opportunity. I strongly recommend this approach to models, as it allows them to leverage the diversity of images from their portfolios and commercial shoots. By doing so, they can strengthen their professional presence when pursuing new assignments.
